peppiewiersma1Peppie Wiersma expresses her talent in a wide range of musical styles reaching from the 17th to the 21st century. She studied timpani and percussion at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and with the Hungarian timpanist Janos Keszei. She has played and recorded with a large number of conductors (Frans Brüggen, Philippe Herreweghe, Peter Eötvös) soloists, ensembles and orchestras (Pierre-Laurent Aimard, the Orchestre des Champs-Éélysées, Ensemble Modern, Schönberg Ensemble, Musikfabrik, Orchestra of the 18th Century) and among today's best known composers (György Ligeti, Klas Torstensson, Karlheinz Stockhausen). She was a member of the Asko Ensemble for 22 years, and is currently timpanist of Collegium Vocale Gent and the Nederlandse Bachvereniging, as well as principal timpanist of the Dutch Radio Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra.

As project initiator Peppie has in recent years started to pursue and develop her own ideas and productions, among which the long dreamed realisation and staged performance of the 1919 version of Les Noces by Igor Stravinsky.

The 1919 version was never finished by Stravinsky himself and after a seven year long procedure, the Stravinsky heirs finally granted permission for the score to be completed, by Theo Verbey.

The 1919 version was staged as a village wedding, combined with two other masterpieces by Stravinsky: the Soldier’s Tale and Scherzo a la Russe. The premiere of this production, 'Svadebka! The Village Wedding' took place in August 2009 in the Hermitage in Amsterdam and toured through Holland on various beautiful locations. In april 2010 Her Majesty the Queen requested Svadebka! to be performed for her Birthday Concert at the Royal Palace in The Hague. The performance was broadcast on national TV.

As of 2008 she has initiated the Nacht van Electra, a one-night-festival inspired by the landscape in the beautiful region of Northwest-Groningen. The next Nacht van Electra is planned for july 14th 2012. www.nachtvanelectra.nl
